Nepal: Beautiful, Majestic, Narrow-bandwidth

We are loving Nepal, and even recorded a thought or two between bouts of trekking and diarrhea (effortless). We have, however, found no internet capable of uploading a fart in HD, so the podcasts are backing up. We hit the trail for 12 days (Annapurna) before heading home and won't have internet access until we're in the airport. But with 5 full days of travel and layovers (bush flight to Pokhara; Pokhera to Kathmandu; Kathmandu to Mumbai; Mumbai to Bahrain; Bahrain to London; London to Boston) we should find ample time to post to our hearts' content in early May.

We wish you all a happy Palm Sunday, Easter, and especially everyone crafty enough to scam their way into a Good Friday religious holiday.

Best Wishes,

Jon and Kate

Namaste Nepal

Sivananda

Dear Blessed Guests,

Please do not put dishes in these sinks as people spit in them and it is not hygienic.

Om shanti.

(Sign over community sink at the Sivananda (pronounced shiv-i-nan-da) yoga ashram in Kerela, India)

Kate and I spent a few days here, and it was great - and summer camp. There wasn't a lot of time for sleeping and or writing, so my sporadic notes from our monastic time were not exactly podcast worthy (and if you've heard my podcasts, that's saying something). I posted the scribblings on Satire and Ice if you're curious.

Thanks for listening!

The Cult of Amma

(I'd forgotten the name of the Ashram when I recorded. It is Amritapuri. If you want to read more about Amma and her international charities, checkout: http://www.amritapuri.org/.)

Kate and I have moved on to the Sivananda yoga ashram in Kerela. We'll have no phones, internets or other space-aged technology, so you're in for another black hole of podcasting. A thousand apologies. But do check out those ted talks. Good stuff. Good stuff...

Thanks for listening.

Love,

Jon and Kate

No Wifi

Our ashram experience may be acutely lacking in internetability, so we may be out of touch for a week or two.

If you're board, check out ted.com/talks for the media experience of your choice.

Love,

Jon and Kate

Love in the Time of Cholera

India

Greetings from India.

We are warm and we are well.

We are also writing - a bit - today from Goa, India, one day after the beginning of Holi. Holi is "the color festival," an 18 day celebration of the beginning of Spring. Practically, this means having brightly colored chalk thrown at and smeared on your face by sweaty and equally powder-adorned strangers. We like it.

After a heap of slow internet in Haiti and the realization that we maxed out our podbean storage space, we are back in action with a new account and a new country. Over the next few days we'll post the last of our stories January in Haiti and then start in on India.

Thanks for reading. We hope it was worth the wait.

All the Best,

Jon and Kate

More Pics

loading slower than expected...

Pics for $10

Today we paid the big bucks to get marginally faster (less ridiculously slow) internet at a big-timey hotel in the city. The crew is in the pool while we order french fries, drink smuggled-in rhum, and write treatment protocols for the Haitian nursing staff ($5 a person was just two too much to pay for a swim. Cold water's free in the clinic showers.).

Anyway, here are a few pics loaded marginally faster than they otherwise would be:
